EASTER IN SICILY IN SUPPORT OF THE ASSISI SERAPHIC ORDER, DEDICATED TO ASSISTING DISABLED PEOPLE
In the solemnity of the Holy Week a delegation of the Savoy Dynastic Orders partook in the Palm Sunday ceremonies in Noto. The service was officiated by His Eminence Monsignor Antonio Staglinò, Prior of Sicily and Grand Officer of theOrder of Saint Maurice and Lazarus.
The titled guests, hailing from Siracusa, Catania and Ragusa, congregated in the church of Santa Maria Assunta– also known as Santa Chiara– where they participated in the blessing of the olive branches and palm leaves. The titled guests then proceeded to join the procession in the Basilica Cathedral, placing themselves behind the Faithful Carriers of San Corrado and in front of the praying clergy.
At the end of the function the delegation followed the clergy and His Eminence the Bishop to the Chapel of the Santissimo Crocifisso. Since 2016 this chapel houses the altar dedicated to the Beatified Maria Cristina di Savoia: His Eminence the bishop set down the floral homage arranged by Sir Giuseppe Troia and blessed the image, as well as all who were present. The delegate Vicar for Siracusa, Knight Commander and Attorney Giorgio Nicastro del Lago, thanked the Prelate and gave him his best wishes for the holy Easter festivities.
In order to renew the Dynastic Orders’ charity mission, a donation was made to Assisi’s Seraphic Institute, which is dedicated to the assistance of disabled people.
The Dynastic Orders of the Royal House of Savoy, supported by their association, are historically dedicated to works of charity and solidarity in Italy and abroad, thanks to the many delegations which spread and promote the activity all over the world.
