Geneva, 5 February 2020. On 18 November 2019, H.R.H. Prince Vittorio Emanuele, Grand Master of the Dynastic Orders of the Royal House of Savoy and H.R.H. the Prince of Piedmont and Venice Emanuele Filiberto di Savoia launched an appeal calling for “a concrete gesture to help Venice” to support of the citizens and tradespeople of Venice, who had been severely damaged by a disastrous flood that hit the city last autumn and that caused serious damage to its art heritage and businesses.
“I believe it is our duty to help the Venetians and especially the tradespeople so that they can be supported in the resumption of their activities …”. This invitation was immediately addressed by H.R.H. Prince Emanuele Filiberto to the Dames and Knights of the Dynastic Orders of the Royal House of Savoy, over 3,000 members worldwide.
In less than two months many Delegations organised fundraising events to contribute to the project, and several Knights and Dames made donations of their own.
The sum raised, amounting to over 20,000 euros, has just been donated by the Grand Chancellery to Confartigianato in Venice in order to support craftspeople who will not receive state funding and who, also thanks to the contribution of the Dynastic Orders of the Royal House of Savoy, will be able to restart their businesses and hope for a better future. Together with the contribution, the Italian Royal Family express their best wishes for a prosperous future for the city of the Lion of St. Mark and express their intention to return to visit it soon.
The Dynastic Orders of the Royal House of Savoy are rooted in their century-old history and today they are supported by the A.I.C.O.D.S. Association. Together, they deal with charitable and solidarity work in Italy and abroad, thanks also to the many Delegations that spread and promote their worldwide activities.
