THE MEDAL OF ST. KIZITO WAS DELIVERED TO THE PAVIA VICARIATE

Casei Gerola (Pavia), 11th November 2018

THE MEDAL OF SAINT KIZITO WAS AWARDED TO THE PAVIA VICARIATE AS A TOKEN OF GRATITUDE FOR THE SIX YEARS OF SUPPORT GIVEN TO THE TOYAI ASSOCIATION IN FAVOUR OF THE MATANY LAZARETTO/HOSPITAL IN UGANDA

Casei Gerola, 11th November 2018 – The Medal of Saint Kizito was awarded to the Pavia Vicariate at the parish hall of Casei Gerola in Pavia. The medal is an important prize awarded by the Toyai Association in recognition of the Vicariate’s commitment to the support of Matany Hospital in Uganda over the last six years. The hospital has become a key medical centre in one of Africa’s poorest and most disadvantaged areas.

The medal was delivered to the Vicar, commendatore Andrea Rivoira, by the President of the Toyai Association, Dr Andrea Trovati.

The silver-plated bronze medal is dedicated to Saint Kizito, the first Ugandan martyr, from whom Saint Kizito Hospital in Matany, the most important charity work supported by the Toyai association in Uganda, takes its name . The Pavia Vicariate has devoted its assiduous commitment to this hospital organising several fundraisers. To date, it has already donated more than € 15,000, along with other contributions that have been made to the association by the Lombard delegation.

The association’s name « Toyai » means “may you be” in the Karimojong language. In the 10 years since its foundation it has raised about 500,000 thanks to the generosity and friendship of many people and institutions. The Saint Kizito Award was established to reward the commitment of those who have supported the association for several years.

The latest charity event organised by the Vicariate in favour of Toyai was held on 20th October at the Castle of San Gaudenzo in Cervesina with a gala dinner. A soprano and a pianist performed 18th-century arias at the gala, which was attended by 80 dames and knights.

The medal represents for the Pavia Vicariate a moment of sharing of noble and humanitarian knightly ideals typical of the Dynastic Orders of the Royal House of Savoy.
