Lija (Malta), 17 March 2023
The growing Delegation of Malta of the Military and Religious Order of St Maurice and St Lazarus of the Royal House of Savoy has recently held its first function for this year in one of the villages of Malta.
The occasion, which was held in the notable village of Lija, consisted of a Mass to support Peter Pan’s project.
Holy Mass was celebrated at the Parish Church of the Transfiguration of Jesus by the Delegation’s Chaplain, the Most Rev. Canon Gerald John Micallef. Lija became one of Malta’s parishes in 1594. The church, designed by the famous Maltese architect Giovanni Barbara, was constructed between 1694 and 1702. The church’s interior is modelled on the Tuscan order with traces of the Doric order. The titular painting depicts the Transfiguration of Jesus and is the work of the celebrated Italian artist Mattia Preti dating from 1698.

This activity was an opportunity for the Delegate, Uff. S.E. Amb Prof George A. Said-Zammit, to update existing Members and Postulants about the latest situation with the Royal House’s projects for 2023. He also informed them about the recent discussions held with Fondazzjoni Sebħ, a local NGO, with the objective that this would become the Delegation’s first charitable partner. This plan is currently waiting for the Grand Chancellor’s approval.
Avanti Savoia!
