On 12 June 2021 the Holy Mass of the Piedmont Delegation was held in the magnificent setting of the Mauritian Abbey of Staffarda.
The Abbey of Staffarda, which is particularly dear to the history of the Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus, is one of the most important medieval monuments in Piedmont. On its grounds on 31 July 1690 a bloody battle took place between the Piedmontese troops led by H.M. King Vittorio Amedeo II and the French troops under General Catinat.
On this occasion, the diplomas and the related insignia were handed over to the new members and to the candidates for promotion into the Savoy Knightly Forces. They had been awarded in Geneva during the year 2020 but had not been handed over due to the suspension of the General Chapter.
The event was organised well by the Delegate for Piedmont Cav. Gr. Cr. O.SS.M.L. Nob. Dr. Carlo Buffa of the Counts of Perrero and was a great success, both in terms of the number of participants and of the funds raised.
At a subsequent luncheon in the Loggia del Grano, the generosity of those present also made it possible to raise funds for the restoration of the crypt of the Mauritian Basilica in Turin.
