A charity concert was held on March 5, 2020, at the Cocoa City Civic Center on the Florida coast in the US. The protagonists of the event were the Italian musicians of the Bell’Elixir Trio with Prof. Roberta Bortolin on the piano, Prof. Stefano Casaccia on the recorder and by Prof. Claudio Gasparoni on the double bass. The ensemble played music from the Belle Époque, including traditional Venetian and Neapolitan music.
The concert was organized by the Cancer Care Centers of Brevard County. The event was presented by Dr. Giuseppe Palermo, a renowned oncologist and president of the Care Centers. The audience included many doctors, both general and specialists, nurses, friends of the Italian community and above all many cancer patients, for whom the concert was held. Prof. Roberta Bortolin donated the proceeds (about $ 6,000) to the Care Centers to help the neediest cancer patients on behalf of the Dynastic Orders of the Royal House of Savoy, to which she belongs as a Dame of the Order of Merit.
“As H.R.H. Prince Vittorio Emanuele declared during the General Chapter, which was held in Nice in 2019, the White Cross of the Royal House is a symbol of hope for the world. It is my duty to act by helping those most in need to honour that Cross“, Prof. Bortolin said.
Among the public was also Tom Price, the mayor of the city of Rockledge, where some of the Centers’ units are located, as well as Capt. Winston Scott, a NASA astronaut and a renowned jazz musician. The concert was a success and the trio has been invited to play there again next year.
“We often rely on pharmaceutical companies to help facilitate treatment for the neediest also in economic terms. We are very pleased to accept this generous contribution, which will be used for these noble purposes” Dr. Giuseppe Palermo said.
