Alessandria – On the occasion of the liturgical memorial of Blessed Margherita of Savoy, whose figure has special ties with this territory because of her title of Marchioness of Monferrato, a Conference on the History and Life of the Order of Saints Maurizio and Lazzaro was held on 23rd November at the Basile Hall.
Promoted by the Alessandria Vicariate, the conference saw the contribution as lecturer of the Knight of the Order of the Grand Cross Nob. Dr. Carlo Buffa of the Counts of Perrero, Delegate for Piedmont of the Dynastic Orders of the Royal House of Savoy and of Dr. Fabrizio Priano, President of the Cultural Association “Liberamente” in Alessandria as moderator.
The meeting was attended by over 80 participants, together with representatives of civil, military and religious authorities, a sign of interest and of felt and renewed curiosity about the topic.
Dr. Buffa managed to attract the audience’s attention with a lectio magistralis on the history of the Order, enriched with numerous anecdotes and personal experiences, without failing to mention Blessed Margherita di Savoia, the founder of the order of the Dominican Tertiaries and well known in the province of Alessandria for the assistance she gave to the poor when hunger and plague devastated the town.
The initiative allowed us to tell the story and promote the work of the Dynastic Orders of the Royal House of Savoy and inform the public about their constant commitment to helping the neediest since the year of their foundation.
