The Sardinian Delegation of the Dynastic Orders of the Royal House of Savoy, led by Cav. Gr. Cr. Prof. Nob. Dott. Don Enrico Sanjust di Teulada, like other Delegations, had to drastically downsize and modify its activities due to the pandemic.
The constant and unpredictable changes in the Region’s “colour” have prevented any long-term planning of initiatives, and therefore opportunities for meetings have been avoided or reduced to a minimum.
Nevertheless, during the first few months of the health emergency, having realised that the contagion was raging mainly in the Province of Sassari, a fundraiser was launched among members and sympathisers, in agreement with the local Diocesan Caritas to try to alleviate the state of dire poverty in which many families in Sassari, generally those living in the town’s centre, found themselves as a result of the forced interruption of small craft activities that often constitute their only source of livelihood.
The sum collected was used by Caritas for this purpose, and the Delegation received official thanks for their support from the charity’s Director, Fr Gerolamo Derosas.
At the beginning of December 2020, part of central Sardinia was hit by a violent storm that caused damage and flooding and in particular devastated part of the town of Bitti with a wave of water, mud and debris. Many families lost everything, found themselves homeless, and were forced to take refuge in makeshift accommodation.
Once again, the Delegation generously responded, in agreement with the Diocesan Caritas in Nuoro. The money raised was used to help purchase furniture and household appliances necessary for the people’s most basic needs. The Delegation was officially thanked for its commitment by the charity’s Director, Sister Pierina Cadeddu.
H.R.H. the Prince Grand Master and H.E. the Grand Chancellor send their warmest appreciation to the Sardinian Delegation, the Dames and Knights led by the Delegate Cav. Gr. Cr. Prof. Nob. Dr. Don Enrico Sanjust di Teulada for what they achieved, thus reaffirming the centuries-old virtues of this most faithful region of Italy.
