Unfortunately, once again this year the pandemic emergency has made it impossible to organise the traditional Eucharistic celebration for the repose of the souls of TT.MM. King Umberto II and Queen Maria José in the presence of the Royal Family, which was due to take place on Saturday 20 March 2021 at the Royal Abbey of Hautecombe.
However, this situation did not prevent many Delegations in Italy (among them Lombardy, Lazio, Piedmont, Sicily and Umbria) and abroad (Savoie, Switzerland) from promoting liturgical celebrations and memorial ceremonies in memory of the Sovereigns, in full compliance with current health regulations.
The Dames and Knights of the Dynastic Orders of the Royal House of Savoy were thus able to unite in prayer in memory of the Gentleman King and His August Consort, the Parents of our Grand Master, H.R.H. Prince Victor Emmanuel. H.R.H. expressed his special appreciation for the work promoted by the Delegations in this regard and said he and the royal family would be spiritually present at each ceremony.
The service at Hautecombe, which is attended by almost a thousand people every year, is one of the most beloved religious celebrations for the Royal Family, the members of the Dynastic Orders of the Royal House of Savoy, all Italian monarchists and the related associations.
The mass, which is usually presided over by the Archbishop of Chambery, is held on the anniversary of the Pious Transit of H.M. King Umberto II, who passed away in exile at 3.45 pm on 18 March 1983 at the Cantonal Hospital in Geneva with his beloved Italy on his mind until the end.
