MEDA – The school proximity project of the Diocese of Cremona, which was created to support nursery and elementary schools in rural centres, was made possible thanks to the commitment of the dames and knights of the Lombardy Delegation and its Vicariates, who shared the common goal of helping children in the area.

The Spring Gala of the Lombardy Delegation took place in the elegant setting of Villa Antona Traversi in Meda, in the province of Monza and BrianzaThe Guest of honourat the event was H.R.H. Prince Emanuele Filiberto of Savoy, accompanied by H.R.H. Prince Sergeof Yugoslavia.

The 250 participants had the opportunity to admire the fine frescoes painted by Bernardino Luini in the hall of honour of the Villa which, as it appears today, is the result of the transformation of the ancient monastery of San Vittore made by architect Leopoldo Pollack in the early years of the nineteenth century.

The guests then moved to the cloister of the Villa where fellow members Pasquale Griesi and Vincenzo Panza staged an exhibition of portraits of the Heads of the House of Savoy from Humbert Whitehands until the present day accompanied by a display of Mauritian relics and historic flags of the Kingdom of Italy.

The purpose of the evening was to reward the Delegation’s commitment in carrying out the 2019 charity project, which consisted in supporting the effort that the Diocese of Cremona has been committed to for years in keeping several nursery and elementary schools open and efficient in the Cremona and Bergamo area, in rural centres that often do not have public service alternatives.

H.R.H. Prince Emanuele Filiberto had the joy of delivering to Msgr. Pietro Bonomettithe representative of the Bishop of Cremona, a check for € 20,000 as a concrete contribution of the Lombard Delegation in the sensitive area of education. In thanking the Dynastic Orders, Msgr. Bonometti stressed that our commitment revitalises a concept of evangelical and radical humanism through which we can all participate in the beauty of Creation.

The evening continued in the villa’s gardens with the cutting of the cake and the chivalry toast and with the display of some historic cars in the belvedere, including the FIAT Torpedo 2008 Alcinoo which belonged to H.M. King Vittorio Emanuele III, in which the Prince of Piedmont made his arrival at the event.
