The Savoy Delegation of the Dynastic Orders organised a Eucharistic celebration in memory of the Sovereign on the 39th anniversary of his death.
12 March 2022, Saint-Pierre-de-Curtille, Savoy, France.
More than thirty Knights and Dames of the Dynastic Orders of the House of Savoy belonging to the Delegation for Savoy gathered in prayer on Saturday 12 March 2022 at the Royal Abbey of Hautcombe, at the invitation of Delegate Prof. Bernard Demotz, to pay homage to H.M. King Umberto II (1904-1983), on the 39th anniversary of his death.
Faithful to a centuries-old tradition of his House and while awaiting final burial at the Pantheon in Rome, the Sovereign, who died on 18 March 1983, chose to be buried in this place, the historic burial ground of the Savoy dynasty.
After gathering in front of the King’s tomb, the Knights and Dames present attended a Holy Mass celebrated in the Princes’ Chapel by the Rev. Father Thibault Nicolet. The representatives of the Swiss and Valle d’Aosta Delegations of the Dynastic Orders, led by their respective delegates, Jean-Christophe Palthey and Giovanni Girardini, joined the prayer in fraternal harmony.
In parallel to this ceremony, members of the French Delegation of the National Institute for the Guard of Honour to the Royal Tombs of the Pantheon ensured the guard service at His Majesty’s Tomb throughout the day.
