LITURGICAL MEMORY OF BLESSED MARIA CRISTINA OF SAVOY IN SICILY

Noto, 30 January 2022

Despite the restrictions imposed by the pandemic, a delegation of the dames and knights of Sicily was able to pay homage to Blessed Maria Cristina of Savoy on the eve of the liturgical memorial.  On the initiative of the Vicariate of Syracuse, Mgr. Angelo Giurdanella, Officer of the Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus, Vicar General of the Diocese of Noto, officiated at Mass at the high altar of the Cathedral Basilica of San Nicolò in Noto, which was declared a national monument by Vittorio Emanuele III.

In his homily, the prelate recalled the outstanding virtues of the daughter of H.M. King Vittorio Emanuele I and consort of Ferdinand II, King of the Two Sicilies, and the special devotion that the whole of Italy had for the ‘holy Queen’.

The solemn rite was followed by the laying of a floral tribute sent by H.R.H. Emanuele Filiberto of Savoy to the altar of the Blessed consecrated at the Chapel of the Spasimo in 2016 in his presence and by a prayer for the further exaltation of the miraculous Savoy princess.
