The Knights and Dames of the Dynastic Orders of the Royal House of Savoy, led by the Vicar for the City and Province of Monza Comm. Luigi Mastroianni, took part for the first time on Saturday 15 September in the celebration for the Triduum of the Holy Nail, on the occasion of the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.The famous relic has been preserved for centuries inside the Iron Crown, which is kept in Theodelinda’s Chapel in Monza Cathedral.
On the third Sunday of September, the Iron Crown is inserted into a cross-shaped reliquary and is then solemnly carried in procession through the streets of the Lombard town by the Archpriest of the Cathedral, Rev. Mgr. Silvano Provasi, escorted by the Cathedral’s Halberdiers, for the faithful to worship.
The Archpriest officially invited the Vicariate to participate in the procession, re-establishing that unbroken bond of faith between the Knightly Forces of the Royal House of Savoy and this distinguished testimony of the Passion of Our Lord.
