RESTORATION OF HOLY VESSELS AND FURNITURE FOR THE SAN SEBASTIANO BASILICA IN THE PROVINCE OF SYRACUSE

1 November, 2020. On the initiative of the Vicariate of Syracuse, a donation was made to the parish priest of the basilica of San Sebastiano Martire in Palazzolo Acreide (province of Syracuse) for the restoration of the Tabernacle of the high altar and the votive lamps of the Blessed Sacrament. The church, which was built in the 17th century, is one of the most important churches in the Hyblean town and combines centuries of art and faith in its religious and historical traditions linked to the cult of the martyr Sebastian, a Roman soldier like St. Mauritius, the Patron Saint of the Savoy knightly forces.  On the feast of All Saints on 1st November the Deputy, comm. avv. Giorgio Nicastro del Lago, together with a delegation of the dames and knights of the Vicariate, participated in nigris – in consideration of the health emergency in progress – in the Eucharistic liturgy celebrated by the Parish Priest: at the end of the sacred rite a sober ceremony took place in the sacristy hall to formalize the donation of the collected funds. After the Deputy’s speech, the Parish Priest, in thanking the honorees, recalled the constant closeness of the dynastic Orders to his pastoral activity, which he previously carried out at the church of San Michele in Palazzolo Acreide, which had taken the form of support for charitable initiatives and the restoration of the statue of the Immaculate Madonna venerated in the church dedicated to her.
