ROYALTY AND CHARITY: 60TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE INAUGURATION OF THE MONUMENT TO QUEEN ELENA

Messina, 24 October 2020. In the indelible memory of Queen Elena, Servant of God and Golden Rose of Christianity, on the 60th anniversary of the inauguration of the monument dedicated to Her Majesty in Largo Seggiola, the city of Messina organized a series of initiatives promoted by the INGORTP Delegation for the province of Messina and the provincial committee of the Associazione Amici del Montenegro ONLUS and sponsored by the Dynastic Orders of the House of Savoy.

Before 24 October, healthcare equipment and food parcels were delivered to the Istituto delle Piccole Sorelle dei Poveri and the “Madre Veronica” home for single mothers in distress. This year also marks the anniversary of the wedding celebrated in Rome in 1896 between then Crown Prince Vittorio Emanuele and Elena of Montenegro. There was also a meeting at the Bishop’s palace with the Auxiliary Bishop of Messina-Lipari-S. Lucia del Mela, H.E. Mgr. Cesare Di Pietro, who received the provincial delegate cav. dr. David Truscello, the National President of the Associazione Amici del Montenegro, Mrs. Maria Coculo Satta, and the Deputy of the Dynastic Orders for Messina comm. rev. Andrea Di Paola.

The laying of the floral tribute before the statue of the Sovereign, which was followed by speeches delivered by Councillor Salvatore Mondello representing the Town Council and Professor Milena Scaramuzza, who witnessed the inauguration of the statue in 1960, preceded the solemn religious ceremony in suffrage of Vittorio Emanuele III and his august Consort celebrated at the shrine of Santa Maria di Montalto, during which a message of greeting from H.R.H. Prince Vittorio Emanuele of Savoy was read out. The event was widely reported in the regional press.
