The psychological support project in favour of the Vidas Children’s Home, which was funded thanks to the generosity of a dame and a knight of our Dynastic Orders, who decided to donate their wedding gifts and favours to Vidas, has recently come to an end. Thanks to the support of all those who contributed and to the Chancellery, psychological support was offered to 29 children, 52 parents and 25 little brothers and sisters. It was an essential service in the difficult situations the children and their families had to face.
Since 1982, VIDAS has been supporting the incurably ill and their relatives in the most painful time of their lives. In addition to free social and medical assistance, it provides all the necessary psychological and relational support. Care is offered 24 hours a day, 365 days a year by 7 teams of social and health workers who are experts in palliative care and assist more than 250 incurable patients every day.
Home care is provided over an area that includes the cities of Milan, Monza and 112 municipalities in the greater Milan area to all patients with incurable diseases in an evolving phase. In addition, the Casa VIDAS hospice has been operating since 2006. It hosts patients who cannot be cared for in their own homes due to critical social situations or conditions of total or partial loneliness. Since 2019, also the Casa Sollievo Bimbi [Children’s Relief Home] has been operational. It is the first residential facility in Lombardy (and among the very few in Italy) offering paediatric palliative care.
We wish to thank all those who contributed to the project and especially the two newly-weds, who prefer to remain anonymous, but whose generosity is a tangible sign of love for others and the passing on of the chivalrous values that unite us.
