FOOD SUPPLIES ARE DELIVERED TO THE NEEDY IN THE NAME OF THE HOUSE OF SAVOY
On the afternoon of 9 June, H.E. Mgr. Michele Seccia, Metropolitan Archbishop of Lecce, Grand Officer of the Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus, received a representation of the Grand Magistral Delegation of Apulia and Basilicata of the Dynastic Orders of the Royal House of Savoy.
The Delegation has been organising charity events in the area for some time, mainly in favour of the charitable activities of the Diocese.
Once again this year, foodstuffs donated for the charity “La carità del Vescovo” were handed over to the Archbishop by the Dames and Knights of the province of Lecce, who in the past promoted similar solidarity initiatives in favour of the “Casa della Carità” and the local section of Caritas.
“We are glad that we can offer our contribution, though it is like a drop in an ocean”. With these words the Delegate for Apulia, Avv. Angelo Gadaleta, began his speech as the funds were handed over to the diocese. He went on to stress the importance of supporting the dioceses and parishes that provide an essential service, especially now during the pandemic, by trying to ease the extreme need and real emergency in which some of our fellow citizens find themselves.
The Bishop responded with a quote from St. Mother Theresa: “It doesn’t matter how much you give, but how much love you put into your giving”.
He then thanked the Delegate and the Dames and Knights of Apulia and said he was well aware of their efforts to support the community especially during the prolonged period of the pandemic.
“Your support is fundamental and invaluable in order for us to meet the growing needs of the population and of our poorest families” the prelate added.
The donation was further proof of the fruitful cooperation between the Apulian Delegation of the Dynastic Orders of the Royal House of Savoy and the Diocese of Lecce and its bishop.
