SÃO PAULO, BIG Supermarket – The Coleta de Alimentos, a food collection for charity purposes, is held annually in Brazil. Thanks to this initiative many free meals are distributed to people in need.
The Knights and Dames of the Brazilian Delegation decided to participate directly in this important event as volunteers in 2016. The team, composed of eleven Knights of the Brazilian Delegation of the Dynastic Orders of the House of Savoy, actively helps in food collection, wearing sweaters with the coat of arms of the Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus, specially prepared for the Coleta, in order to be recognizable, and they carry out their service throughout the whole day.
The result was very positive: at the end of the day more than 1185 kg of food were collected, of which 700 kg were donated by the Delegation. With this result, the collection was the second largest in the whole state of São Paulo in terms of quantity.
The food collected was then destined to voluntary religious organizations operating in the Brazilian territory.
It was a significant contribution and a precious opportunity that allowed the Dynastic Orders of the Royal House of Savoy to gain visibility and show to all the people who took part in the collection the social commitment that defines the mission of its Knights and Dames.
