THE DELEGATION FOR SICILY MEETS IN CATANIA AT THE JONICA ROWING CLUB

A NEW INITIATIVE TOWARDS THE FULL RESUMPTION OF ACTIVITIES IN PERSON

The Circolo Canottieri Jonica, a prestigious sporting association in Catania founded in 1926 whichhosted several times H.R.H. Emanuele Filiberto di Savoia, Prince of Piedmont and Venice, with the Delegate for Sicily, the Vice Delegate, the Vicars for Catania, Syracuse, Messina and Palermo, welcomed the Dames and Knights of the Dynastic Orders of the House of Savoy from all over the island

A message sent by H.E. Grand Chancellor, Knight of the Supreme Order of the Holy Annunciation, Johannes Theo Niederhauser, and the greetings of the Deputy for Catania, Comm. Avv. Giovanni Vanadia, and the Vice President of the Club, Comm. Francesco Calabrese Di Martino, was read before Vice Delegate Cav. Dr. David Truscello delivered a lecture on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the granting of the Sicilian Regional Charter by H.M. King Umberto II.

The Delegate, Gr. Uff. Avv. Francesco Maria Atanasio then handed out the diplomas of the Order of Merit of Savoy and the Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus, which were awarded in Geneva in 2020 but had not yet been handed out owing to the cancellation of the General Chapter of the Dynastic Orders as a result of the health emergency. A number of certificates of merit were also awarded, in particular to a member from the Vicariate of Catania and to the AMICRI Association in Catania, who distinguished themselves in the fight against Covid-19.

The Deputy for Messina, Rev. Don Andrea Di Paola, Chief Chaplain of the Italian Navy, gave the blessing to the participants.

The event was followed by a vino d’onore, a refreshment in the Club’s garden, in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
