THE GOLD MEDAL OF THE ORDER OF SAINTS MAURICE AND LAZARUS WAS AWARDED TO ALEXANDRIA CATHEDRAL (EGYPT). HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS PRINCE VITTORIO EMANUELE’S GESTURE FOR THE CATHEDRAL THAT KEPT THE MORTAL REMAINS OF THE SOLDIER KING FOR SEVENTY YEARS.

Alexandria (Egypt) 20 October 2019 – A Holy Mass was celebrated in Italian according to the Roman Catholic Rite at St. Catherine’s Cathedral in Alexandria at 6.00 pm on 20 October 2019, in the presence of the local Italian community, in suffrage of H.M. King Vittorio Emanuele III and of all the Italian soldiers buried in the El Alamein War Memorial. After the Holy Mass a Message by H.R.H. Prince Vittorio Emanuele, Head of the Royal House of Savoy, was read.

On this occasion, Grand Officer Rodolfo Armenio, Secretary of the Delegation for Campania of the Dynastic Orders of the Royal House of Savoy, read out the content of the diploma and delivered the Gold Medal of the Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus to Brother Mokles Massry of the Order of Friars Minor, Councillor of the Franciscan Province of Egypt. H.R.H the Prince Grand Master granted the medal in September 2018 to the cathedral, which for seventy years guarded the mortal remains of the Sovereign who completed the Unification of Italy.
