On 10 September, the Lucca Vicariate of the Dynastic Orders of the Royal House of Savoy, part of the Delegation for Tuscany, had the high honour of being visited by HRH Emanuele Filiberto of Savoy, Prince of Piedmont and Venice.
The day began with HRH’s visit to S. Anna di Stazzema, where Nazi fury raged against the population, with a horrendous massacre that caused the death of 560 civilians. The Prince paused here for a long time in recollection, then said significant words on the Second World War, bringing the moving greetings of the Head of the House of Savoy, HRH Prince Victor Emmanuel and laying a floral tribute. Following this, HRH visited the “Cimitery of mercy” in Viareggio, where he laid flowers in memory of the 32 dead in the 2009 railway massacre and met some relatives of the victims, in an atmosphere of intense emotion. Back at his hotel, HRH then recalled before the cameras of Tg5 the splendid figure of HM Queen Elizabeth II

In the afternoon, the Prince of Piedmont and Venice attended a solemn Eucharistic celebration at the Church of Santa Rita together with numerous Dames and Knights of the Dynastic Orders of the Royal House of Savoy. A large number of citizens of Viareggio crowded the church’s aisles and greeted HRH festively.
At the beginning and at the end of the celebration, the local band played the Royal March and the Sardinian anthem on the parvis in honour of the Augustus Prince.
A charity dinner was held at the Viareggio Nautical Club at 8.30 p.m.. It was organised at the explicit request of HRH Prince Emanuele Filiberto of Savoy by the Vicariate of Lucca together with “Lube Cucine Toscana”, owned by Ivan Puosi and Giovanni Gulino.
The House of Savoy and LUBE have chosen to officially support the project of the AIPD non-profit Versilia Association to build of the “dopo di noi” Multi-purpose Centre.
The centre is already under construction in Lido di Camaiore.
The charity event was organised to raise funds that were entirely donated to the children of AIPD. It was attended by entrepreneurs and personalities including Conductor Beatrice Venezi, during which HRH and LUBE announced a donation to build all the kitchens and bedrooms required for the residence for the disabled for a total value of €30,000, to which a further € 5,000 raised during lunch was added.
The Royal House of Savoy has always been committed in supporting the most active organisations in the field of solidarity in Italy and the rest of the world and has long had Versilia at heart: suffice it to think of the economic aid that HRH Prince Victor Emmanuel personally sent to the families of the victims of the Cardoso and Fornovolasco floods in the days immediately following the 1996 tragedy.
Special thanks to Comm. Alessandro Santini, Deputy of Lucca for the Dynastic Orders of the Royal House of Savoy, who organised HRH’s visit, and to the Delegate for Tuscany Cav. Gr. Cr. Prof. Giovanni Duvina.
