16 March 2024, Royal Abbey of Hautecombe, Saint-Pierre-de-Curtille, Savoy.

The Savoy Delegation of the Dynastic Orders of the Royal House of Savoy organised a ceremony in the Royal Abbey of Hautecombe in memory of Their Majesties King Umberto II, Queen Maria José and H.R.H. Prince Vittorio Emanuele, Duke of Savoy and Prince of Naples. Numerous knights and ladies of the Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus and of the Order of Merit of Savoy paid homage to the fourth Sovereign of Italy on the occasion of the 41st anniversary of His death, which occurred in Geneva on 18 March 1983.

At the invitation of Cav. Gr. Cr. Prof. Bernard Demotz, Delegate of the Dynastic Orders of Savoy, the members gathered in the magnificent abbey on Saturday 16 March 2024. His Majesty King Umberto II, faithful to an ancestral tradition, chose to be buried in this place, symbolising the continuity of the House of Savoy.

After the Eucharist, a moment of homage and reflection was held before the tombs of TT.MM. The ceremony was attended by Their Excellencies Cav. Ord. Supr. SS. Ann. Johannes Theo Niederhauser and Cav. Gr. Cr. Avv. Nicolas Gagnebin, respectively Grand Chancellor and Grand Treasurer of the Dynastic Orders of the Royal House of Savoy. In addition to the Knights and Dames of the Savoy delegation, there were also some applicants and several representatives of the Swiss delegation, led by Delegate Gr. Uff. Jean-Christophe Palthey.

Friends from the National Institute of the Guard of Honour at the Royal Tombs of the Pantheon and various supporters were also present. During the Holy Mass, there was also a deeply moving tribute to H.R.H. Prince Vittorio Emanuele, who died on 3 February. He used to visit the Royal Abbey of Hautecombe every year to pay homage to the tomb of His August parents.
