On June 4th, the Grand Master, His Royal Highness Prince Emmanuel Philibert of Savoy, visited the Almoner of His Holiness, His Eminence Cardinal Konrad Krajewski, and Reverend Don Francesco Mazzitelli, F.D.P., respectively Prefect and Head of Office of the Dicastery for the Service of Charity, also known as the Apostolic Almonry.

During the meeting, which took place in a very cordial atmosphere, the Cardinal Almoner and the Grand Master illustrated the respective charitable activities of the Apostolic Almonry and the Dynastic Orders of the Royal House of Savoy, with the aim of identifying opportunities for the latter to support the works of the Dicastery.

The Grand Master was accompanied by the Delegate for Lazio, Gr. Off. Lawyer Alfonso Marini Dettina, along with some members of the Delegation Council.

The Grand Master handed over a donation from the Lazio Delegation of the Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus to the Cardinal Almoner for the Mother of Mercy Clinic, a structure of the Dicastery for the Service of Charity that provides free medical assistance to those living in poverty, marginalization, or difficulty, directly referring to the principles of the Gospel and the Social Doctrine of the Church. The clinic, located under Bernini’s Colonnade in the Vatican, provides approximately 13,000 medical services to over 7,000 people each year, thanks to the commitment of 80 doctors, nurses, and volunteers. This donation, made with contributions from 50 donors, including members of the Calabria and Ireland Delegations, will enable the clinic to conduct important blood tests for about 500 less fortunate people.

The visit to the Vatican included three moments: a meeting with the Prefect and the Head of Office at the Apostolic Almonry headquarters, participation in the Angelus recited by His Eminence, and a visit to the premises of the Mother of Mercy Clinic.

At the clinic, the Prince was welcomed by the medical and paramedical staff on duty and had the opportunity to meet the Director, Dr. Massimo Ralli. The Director presented the clinic’s daily activities, which include medical guard visits, specialist visits, dental services, laboratory tests, nursing services, vaccinations, and a podiatry service. Finally, the clinic guarantees free medicines and necessary therapies to the poor and needy who turn to it, in collaboration with the Vatican Pharmacy.
